Chefchaouen Weather: The Best Time to Visit the Blue City
Because it is nestled high in the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco, Chefchaouen weather is unlike the scorching deserts of Merzouga or the humid coasts of Casablanca. The Blue City experiences distinct seasons, with chilly winters and warm, beautiful summers. Knowing what weather to expect is the key to packing correctly and planning the perfect Moroccan adventure.
Quick Facts: Chefchaouen Weather

- ☀️ Warmest Months: July and August (Average highs of 30°C / 86°F).
- ❄️ Coldest Months: January and February (Average lows of 6°C / 43°F, occasionally dropping to freezing at night).
- 🌧️ Rainiest Months: November through February.
- 🌸 Best Overall Time to Visit: Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November).
Spring (March to May): The Golden Window
Spring is arguably the absolute best time to visit the Blue Pearl. The Chefchaouen weather during these months is mild, sunny, and incredibly pleasant, with temperatures hovering between 18°C and 25°C. Because the winter rains have just finished, the surrounding Rif Mountains are vibrantly green, and the nearby Akchour Waterfalls are flowing at full capacity. This is peak hiking season!
Summer (June to August): Warm and Bustling
Summers in Chefchaouen are generally dry and warm, but thanks to the mountain elevation, it rarely suffocates you with the extreme 45°C heat found in Marrakech. Highs will sit comfortably around 30°C. Be warned: August is a major holiday month for Moroccan locals, and the narrow blue streets will be exceptionally crowded.
Autumn & Winter (September to February)
Autumn brings the cooling off period. September and October are fantastic months to visit, replicating the ideal hiking weather of Spring.
Winter in Chefchaouen, however, can be surprisingly cold. The mountain altitude means the nights demand a heavy jacket, and most traditional Moroccan riads do not have central heating. If you visit in January, pack thick socks, thermal layers, and ensure your accommodation provides space heaters and heavy blankets.
